Construction Update - Specific Buildings and Programs (2/26/09)

In this installment we show each building and the programs that will be housed in that building.  This may offer a better perspective of the campus and the progrss being made.  The pictures will be in order of construction, the most progress to the least.  The label will be below each picture.

On the left is the Education Center which will have classrooms, a large conference room, a commercial kitchen and will house Educational Resources. It will also be the main visitor entrance to the campus (just to the left of the Bell Tower).  Most clients that we serve will enter the specific building where the program they are visiting is located.  On the right is the Chapel.

This is Xavier Medical Clinic.  It will house Xavier Clinic, Xavier Pregnancy Clinic, and the dental suites.

This building will house Immigration, Migrant and Refugee Services (both will be on the left side of the building), and the Padre Pio Assistance Unit (the right side of the building).  In the back/right corner will be client access to the Food Pantry (after visiting with the appropriate Case Manager in PPAU).

This building will house the Clothing Center, the Food Pantry (connecting in the back with the PPAU building listed above), the warehouse, and maintenance.  Deliveries and donations will be accepted in the back of this building, processed by staff and volunteers, and distributed to the various programs throughout the campus.

This is the Administration building.  It will house the Executive Director's office, business, finance, accounting, Mission Advancement, Volunteer Resources, and other administrative positions.  A visitor to this area would enter at the main entrance (listed above in the Education Center) and then be directed to the appropriate office.

This building (basically the slab and the few steel beams in the foreground - not the yellow building behind it) is where the Adoption and Counseling programs will be housed.  It too will have a private entrance.

This will house the Madonna House (closer beams and gravel floor on the right) and St. Elizabeth Lodge (further beams to the left).  They are preparing to pour the floor/slab in the next few days/weeks and continue to erect the steel beams.  The entrances to both of these programs will be behind security gates - both for parking and for walkup traffic.  Any visitors will need to be cleared by the staff on duty.

Construction Update - Roofing and Sheathing Work (2/10/09)

They have started putting on the roofing panels and exterior sheathing.  Many of the buildings are actually looking like buildings.

Construction Update - Wood Beams in the Chapel (1/30/09)

The beams and wooden roof have been added to the chapel.  I have also included a few pictures of the snow/sleet on the campus.

Construction Update - More Concrete and More Steel (1/12/09)

Over the last few weeks Flintco and it's subcontractors have been putting up a lot of steel.  They also began pouring the slab in the Chapel and Education Center.  Here are some pictures to show the continuing progress.

Here is an overhead shot of the new campus taken in late December.  This gives a little perspective as to how large the buildings are and the size of the property.

Blessing and Raising of the Cross

Catholic Charities marked a blessed moment at the new building site on December 18th, when a cross was moved into place at the highest point of the new structure located at 2450 North Harvard Ave.

Bishop Edward J. Slattery blessed the cross before it was lifted to the top of the steel frame of the bell tower with a large crane. Flintco construction workers guided it into place. Kevin Sartorius, Executive Director of Catholic Charities, joined Bishop Slattery in thanking the people and organizations that are working together to build this facility that will bring most of the services of Catholic Charities together at this new location.

The steel frame for the chapel and the education center form the shape of these sections of the 72,000 square-foot facility. The cost of construction is $15.4 million, which was part of the $19 million raised in the Mission of Hope: Changing Lives With Love fundraising campaign. Funds are also allocated for furnishings and for an endowment to provide annual earnings for maintaining the new buildings. Nearly 4,000 people donated to the Mission of Hope campaign in order to carry out the mission of Catholic Charities: To bring Christ’s merciful love to those who suffer in our midst.

Steel beams being positioned December 10 through 12, 2008.  This is the Chapel and the front of the Education Center.

This beam is signed by some of Catholic Charities' staff, Board Members, construction workers and others involved in the construction project.  It is in the bell tower for the Chapel and will be visible from the inside when construction is complete.

First day of steel being placed - December 2, 2008

The first concrete being poured - October 10, 2008.

Early Site Preparation - September 9, 2008

A very basic layout of the new campus - 2450 North Harvard Avenue.

Today Catholic Charities operates out of six different buildings in north and east Tulsa. Our Mission of Hope: Changing Lives With Love fund raising campaign was successful because 4,000 people and organizations in Eastern Oklahoma gave more than $19 million in gifts and pledges to help Catholic Charities bring our programs and services together in one campus. Approximately $11.9 million has already been received and is invested until needed. The new campus is located at 2450 North Harvard Avenue - just south of the corner of Apache and Harvard (near Tulsa Community College's NE Campus).

This new campus will enable us to provide more in-depth services to those in need. Perhaps the greatest benefit to the new facility is that we will be able to provide assistance to people in distress without requiring them to visit several locations. Flintco construction company is starting a section of the facilities every two weeks, beginning with Building A (Chapel, Education Center/Classrooms), then Building G (Xavier Medical Clinic), Building F (Padre Pio Assistance Unit, Immigration and Migrant Refugee Services), Building E (Food Pantry, Clothing Center and Warehouse), Building B (Administration, Voluinteer Resources, Counseling and Adoption Services), Building C (Madonna House), and Building D (St. Elizabeth Lodge). The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2009.

Last year our more than 500 volunteers, numerous donors, and staff served 60,000 people.  With the new facility we hope to serve even more people in our mission of bringing God’s merciful love to those who suffer in our midst.
