Summary of Programs and Services

SAINT ELIZABETH LODGE An apartment complex where transitional lodging, counseling and other supportive services are provided without fees to homeless families with children, typically for a period of about four months. Families staying at St. Elizabeth have the opportunity to develop a plan for long-term housing, financial stability and get a fresh start on their own.

MADONNA HOUSE A group home where women who are in a crisis pregnant or who have newborn babies are provided lodging, healthful nutrition, linkage with maternity and pediatric care, professional counseling and instruction in such topics as child care and nutrition. Residents are also offered instruction leading toward their GED diploma or support toward post-high school training or education. Other supportive services are provided as needed.

SAINT JOSEPH RESIDENCE Provides residential care to individuals and family support to those afflicted with HIV/AIDS. Professional counseling and other supportive services along with a full-time nursing presence are available to the residents. All services are provided without fees.

SAINT ANTHONY EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE UNIT Social services for those who have an immediate need for groceries, clothing, information, referral or perhaps small cash assistance and help with needs like prescriptions and utilities.

MIGRATION AND REFUGEE SERVICES Multi-lingual resettlement casework, providing assistance with housing, employment, language, schooling, healthcare and other services essential to the new arrivals.

ADOPTION PROGRAM Licensed adoption services for domestic infant adoptions as well as international adoption assistance. Crisis pregnancy counseling, social service assistance and related services, support groups for birth mothers, adoptive families, information and education regarding both domestic and international adoption.

OUR LADY OF REFUGE HISPANIC HELPING CENTER Located in an area with a large population of Hispanic residents, this center provides an array of programs including food pantry, clothing, advocacy, prenatal, parenting, and early childhood development, and immigration counseling. Preparations for citizenship testing and English classes are offered. The center is staffed by bilingual caseworkers.

XAVIER MEDICAL CLINIC Offers the services of volunteer physicians, nurses, and other health professionals to those in the community who are uninsured or do not have access to adequate healthcare. It provides free, limited outpatient primary healthcare services, facilitates referrals to volunteer specialists and access to traditional healthcare. This is a joint program of Saint Francis Health System and Catholic Charities.

IMMIGRATION Assistance from bi-lingual staff offering services to immigrants who need information, document translation and other assistance while working toward obtaining proper documentation and citizenship.

PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING For persons experiencing significant problems, especially in marital and family relations. Counseling is available in both English and Spanish.

RURAL OUTREACH PROGRAM Assistance is provided to seven rural parishes in eastern Oklahoma through grocery supplies or financial aid. Catholic Charities’ Helping Center in Sallisaw provides groceries, clothing and referral services. St. Joseph Church in Muskogee runs a food pantry located in the former Sacred Heart Parish facilities. A substantial assistance program is conducted through Immaculate Conception Church in Poteau. St. Brigid Church in Tahlequah provides assistance with the help of volunteers. Immaculate Conception Church in Hugo, Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Cushing and St. Anthony Church in Okmulgee also serve the poor in their communities. St. John University Parish in Stillwater works to eliminate the barriers of people struggling to get off welfare, find employment or to learn a trade.
